FORT CARSON , Colo . - When new soldiers , up to the rank of colonel , arrive at Fort Carson , they must sign in at the Replacement Center . From there , they go through a weeklong process of in - processing before joining their new units . During this time , soldiers receive new gear , take care of medical readiness , and attend a finance briefing . They also participate in group physical training on Wednesdays with the division command team . Soldiers should make sure to hydrate well to adapt to Fort Carson ' s altitude . Soldiers usually finish their in - processing relatively early in the day , allowing them time to take care of personal matters , settle their housing situation , and handle any other tasks before reporting to their actual unit , according to Sgt . Lorne Wiggins , a member of the Ready Company cadre who oversees in - processing . Soldiers and their families arriving at Colorado Springs Airport can call 719 - 526 - 6961 for a shuttle ride to the Replacement Center , if available , or they can use other transportation options like taxis or ride - sharing apps . Wiggins advises soldiers who are unsure about what to do before changing duty stations to ask their sponsor , drill sergeants , or Ready Company for guidance . Wiggins also mentions that some common issues new soldiers face are not signing in with the Replacement Center before their leave ends and not taking care of family matters before arriving . "Soldiers with families sometimes arrive with their families before securing stable housing , instead of taking care of that before bringing their families , " said Wiggins . Sgt . 1st Class Anthony Angotti , the noncommissioned officer in charge of Ready Company , advises soldiers to address any financial issues or inform their leaders of any problems they may need assistance with upon arrival . One way Ready Company supports Soldiers is by providing liaisons to the different units on Fort Carson . It ' s important for Soldiers to know they can speak up and ask for help , regardless of their rank . Sgt . 1st Class Billy Thornton , the liaison for 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team , 4th Infantry Division , said , "If you have a problem , don ' t hesitate to reach out . We ' re here to help . " In - processing also helps Soldiers understand the division ' s history and feel proud to be part of it . This knowledge boosts their confidence when joining their units .
