☷Four Fort Novosel Soldiers retire with nearly 100 years of combined service

Capt . Taylor began his military career in 2003 as a Human Resources specialist . After being selected for the Green to Gold program at Auburn University in August 2013 , he served in various locations throughout his 21 years of service . This includes deployments to Camp Ramadi in 2007 and Kuwait for Operation Inherent Freedom in 2018 . Capt . Taylor ' s most fulfilling experiences involved mentoring soldiers and making a positive impact as a leader . He and his spouse Tabitha have two children and plan to settle in Eclectic , Alabama . Chief Warrant Officer 5 Delacruz joined the military in 1987 as an Aircraft Powerplant Mechanic . In 1994 , he successfully completed Army warrant officer flight training . Throughout his 36+ years of service , he has been stationed in various locations including Fort Story , Virginia; Fort Novosel , Alabama; Fort Cavazos , Texas; and overseas assignments in Germany , Japan , and Korea . Capt . Marc J . Taylor , Chief Warrant Officer 5 Immanuel Delacruz , Chief Warrant Officer 4 Seth Armstrong , and Sgt . 1st Class Erich G . Schmitt were all honored together at a retirement ceremony at the Army Aviation Museum on Feb . 2 , 2024 . Chief Warrant Officer 4 Seth Armstrong was joined by his spouse Elizabeth Armstrong , while Chief Warrant Officer 5 Immanuel Delacruz was accompanied by his spouse Rhojon Delacruz . Capt . Marc J . Taylor stood with his spouse Tabitha Taylor , and Sgt . 1st Class Erich G . Schmitt stood with his spouse Nicole Schmitt . All four soldiers , who had a combined 98 years of service , were celebrated at the Fort Novosel Quarterly Retirement Ceremony in the U . S . Army Aviation Museum . The ceremony was officiated by Col . Bryan C . Jones , commander of Air Traffic Services Command and the 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group , with assistance from Command Sgt . Maj . Caleb T . Baugh . Each retiree ' s accomplishments are briefly described below . Additionally , he has been on multiple combat tours in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm , Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom . Chief Warrant Officer 5 Delacruz has also served as an instructor pilot , Aviation Safety Officer , and Command Chief Warrant Officer . The highlight of his career , according to Chief Warrant Officer 5 Delacruz , was being an instructor pilot at Camp Zama , Japan , where he and his family got to travel around Asia . He and his spouse Rhojon have two children and one granddaughter . When he retires , they plan to settle down in Texas . Chief Warrant Officer Four Seth Armstrong joined the military in 2004 as an Airborne Infantryman . In 2006 , he applied and got selected for Army Warrant Officer flight training . Mr . Armstrong has also worked as an OH - 58D pilot in command , instructor pilot , standardization instructor pilot , MQ - 1C Gray Eagle standardization officer , and Master Gunner , as well as an AH - 64D/E instructor pilot , standardization instructor pilot , and Master Gunner . Throughout his 20 years of military service , he has been stationed in various places , including Schofield Barracks , Hawaii; Fort Campbell , Kentucky; Fort Wainwright , Alaska; Fort Novosel , Alabama; and overseas in Italy and Korea . He has also been on multiple combat tours in support of operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom . The highlight of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Armstrong ' s career , he says , is that he has never lost a ground soldier , escorted aircraft , or crewmember under his protection or guidance . He and his spouse Elizabeth have two children . After retirement , their plan is to live in Enterprise , Alabama . Sgt . 1st Class Erich G . Schmitt enlisted in the military in 2003 as a Wheeled Vehicle Operator . Throughout his 21 years of military service , he has been stationed in various places , including Fort Johnson , Louisiana; Fort Riley , Kansas; Fort Bliss , Texas; Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson , Alaska; Onalaska , Wisconsin; Mobile , Alabama , and overseas in Germany , Iraq , and Afghanistan . He has also been on multiple combat tours in support of operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom . Sgt . 1st Class Schmitt has held positions such as team leader , squad leader , platoon sergeant , operations sergeant , Recruiter , Deputy Station Commander , and Station Commander . According to him , the highlight of his career was successfully leading a forward support company at the National Training Center while acting as First Sergeant . He is married to Nicole Schmitt .
