U . S . Army Staff Sgt . Dalton Mitchell , a section leader with the 64th Brigade Support Battalion , 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team , 4th Infantry Division , is giving some helpful tips to Pfc . Gage Borum , a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer , at the Company Operations Facility in Fort Carson , Colorado . Mitchell is briefing Borum on the upcoming deployment and how to get ready for it . Borum , who is inspecting a load handling system compatible water tank rack , knows how important this equipment is for the mission and the well - being of the soldiers . He ' s getting ready for his first overseas deployment and is excited for the opportunity . Borum , who joined the Army in 2022 , always had an interest in mechanics , so becoming a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer was a natural fit for him . He ' s been working hard to ensure that all the equipment is in good shape and ready for action . Deployment can be nerve - wracking , but Borum is determined to face it head - on and complete every task to make sure the mission is a success . He ' s been focusing on maintaining and checking all the generators , wheeled and tracked equipment , and making sure everything is in working order . Deployment can be tough , and many soldiers feel uneasy about leaving their families and friends behind . That ' s why it ' s important to mentally prepare and go through training before heading out . You gotta learn and adapt to whatever situation you ' re going through , according to Staff Sgt . Dalton Mitchell , Borum ' s section leader . When I first went overseas , I was scared . Deployment can be a huge shock for many soldiers . They need to be tough , but also have leadership to support them . However , Mitchell also says that soldiers have a lot to look forward to and many new experiences during deployment . Even though deployments usually only last nine months , the memories soldiers make will stick with them forever . I ' m a little nervous about going to a new country , but also really excited . I hope to gain a lot of experience and knowledge . I expect nothing but the best from this deployment . It ' s all exciting and new , and I can ' t wait .
