☷PAARNG leaders donate blood support Bliss ASBP

Maj . Carmen Toscano , Pennsylvania Army National Guard deputy mobilization officer , stops by to make a donation at the blood donation center at Fort Bliss , Texas , in January 2024 . Toscano and staff were in town to visit the more than 1 , 000 2nd Battalion , 112th Infantry Regiment Task Force Paxton Soldiers are currently training at the Fort Bliss Training Complex before deploying later this year . Pennsylvania National Guard leaders who were in town made a special stop at the blood donation center at Fort Bliss , Texas , in late January to donate blood and blood products to observe the training . The trio , Col . Stu James , the senior Army advisor to the 1st Army Pennsylvania National Guard; Lt . Col . Christopher Mclaud , the PAARNG state mobilization officer; and Maj . Carmen Toscano , PAARNG ' s deputy state mobilization officer , were in town to visit the more than 1 , 000 Paxton Soldiers from 2nd Battalion and 112th Infantry Regiment who are currently training at the Fort Bliss Training Complex before to be deployed later this year . Annually , approximately 75 , 000 active duty , reserve and National Guard Soldiers train at Fort Bliss , which has more than a million acres of training space . James returned to Bliss for the first time since serving as garrison commander from 2019 to 2021 . The 2 - 112 . INF is historically known as “16 . Pennsylvania” and can trace their ancestry back to before the Civil War . The Fort Bliss Blood Donation Center directly supports the Armed Services Blood Program , a Department of Defense - supported initiative to streamline donations from the American home front to front lines and to military medical centers overseas to support troops or their family members . Encouraged by the training they observed among their troops , Toscano said the trio spontaneously stopped at the center because of the ASBP ' s mission to support those on the front lines . “I believe there is a mission that is bigger than the individual soldier , ” Toscano said . “We’re all in this together and it takes all of us . ”
