General Timothy D . Haugh , a U . S . Air Force General , took over as the commander of U . S . Cyber Command ( USCYBERCOM ) and the National Security Agency ( NSA ) /Central Security Service ( CSS ) on February 2 , 2024 . The change of command ceremony , held at USCYBERCOM/NSA/CSS Headquarters , marked the transition of leadership from General Paul M . Nakasone , a U . S . Army General , to General Haugh . In his new role , General Haugh expressed his honor and confidence in leading the organizations , acknowledging the incredible work done by the workforce . The ceremony , attended by senior military and civilian leaders , as well as distinguished guests and family members , was officiated by Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen H . Hicks and Director of National Intelligence Avril D . Haines . General Haugh ' s career highlights his unique talents in the cyber and intelligence fields , with a focus on navigating partnerships and anticipating cyber threats . Director Haines commended his experience , integrity , and dedication to his workforce . The ceremony not only welcomed General Haugh but also marked the retirement of General Nakasone , as he embarks on his next chapter in life . General Nakasone has been serving as Commander of USCYBERCOM and Director of the National Security Agency/Chief of the Central Security Service ( NSA/CSS ) since May 2018 . His leadership has led to a significant transformation for USCYBERCOM , with increased autonomy and resources to tackle evolving cyber threats . General Nakasone ' s collaboration with NSA/CSS has been crucial in navigating the changing threat landscape . He prioritized external partnerships and innovation by expanding the cybersecurity mission and establishing the unclassified Cybersecurity Collaboration Center and Artificial Intelligence Security Center . General Nakasone is proud of maintaining the trust and confidence of the American people through their actions in SIGINT , cybersecurity , and cyberspace operations . As he retires from the military after 37 years of service , he is filled with pride and satisfaction for leading the exceptional men and women of USCYBERCOM , NSA , and CSS .
