Soldier moms have 365 days after giving birth , according to the new Army Directive 2022 - 06 ( Parenthood , Pregnancy , and Postpartum ) , before they need to take a record Army Combat Fitness Test and meet the height and weight standards . Erika Flores , a signal operations support specialist assigned to the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team , 4th Infantry Division , is supporting Soldiers in the Pregnancy/Postpartum Physical Training Program during an Army Combat Fitness Test at Fort Carson , Colorado , on Jan . 30 , 2024 . The P3T program aims to promote readiness through health by maintaining the fitness levels of pregnant Soldiers and successfully integrating postpartum Soldiers back into unit physical readiness training . ( U . S . Army photo by Sgt . Woodlyne Escarne ) When the Pregnancy/Postpartum Physical Training ( P3T ) program at the Ivy Division needed an installation instructor trainer , Sgt . Erika Flores , a signal operations support specialist for the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team , 4th Infantry Division , from Hunt , Texas , stepped up . "I saw that the program wasn ' t reaching its full potential , so I decided to be the one to make a change , " said Flores . "I made it my mission to find the right people to support these Soldiers and set them up for success . " The P3T program focuses on promoting readiness and health by maintaining the fitness levels of pregnant Soldiers and successfully reintegrating postpartum Soldiers back into unit physical readiness training . Flores ' s job as the installation instructor and trainer involves creating the monthly PT schedule , making sure the PT plan is safe , training exercise leaders , organizing educational classes , and handling administrative tasks . According to Maj . Ashley Denoyer , Flores has been the main instructor and trainer for a year and a half , playing a vital role in keeping the program running smoothly . In the past seven months , she has trained over 60 exercise leaders , contributing to the effectiveness and culture of the P3T program . Flores , a mother of two who has gone through the P3T program herself , wants to support other women by sharing her experiences and connecting them with resources . She is passionate about making the program successful and creating a welcoming environment for pregnant and postpartum Soldiers . The program provides a support system and a sense of unity for these women . Soldier moms have 365 days after giving birth before they are required to take a record Army Combat Fitness Test and meet height and weight standards , as stated in the new Army Directive 2022 - 06 ( Parenthood , Pregnancy , and Postpartum ) .
