U . S . Army Garrison Commander Col . Marcus Hunter and Command Sgt . Maj . David Rio teamed up with the garrison Army Community Service team for a ceremony and proclamation signing in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month on April 1 at Camp Zama , Japan . They emphasized the importance of protecting children in the community and called for a community - wide effort . The ceremony , hosted by the Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program team , featured speakers who highlighted the need to raise awareness and use available resources to prevent abuse and neglect . Attendees were given blue - ribbon lapel pins , symbolizing the campaign to end child abuse , and were encouraged to wear blue every Friday during April . Hey everyone , Luera mentioned how one person started a national blue - ribbon campaign , and he ' s excited to see what Camp Zama can do to raise awareness . Hunter emphasized the importance of turning awareness into action and thanked military parents for their dedication . The theme for this year ' s prevention month is "MilParents Rock , " highlighting the strength of military families . Maiki Mayhew shared upcoming events for awareness , like wearing blue on Fridays and a Bowling Pin Decorating Contest . There will also be a Family Game Night , a "Strike Out Child Abuse" event , and a pinwheel - planting event .
