Hey , check it out! The ITE program is gonna help cut down on greenhouse gas emissions - the T901 saves 45 , 000 pounds of emissions per aircraft each year . The Improved Turbine Engine is backing up the Army Climate Strategy by boosting operational capability and cutting emissions . The strategy is all about the Army taking action against climate change . The T901 engine is gonna give Army aviation more power for multi - domain operations , longer ranges , and heavier payloads , all while reducing greenhouse gas emissions . It ' s the new 3 , 000 shaft horsepower engine for the AH - 64 Apache and UH - 60 Black Hawk helicopters . The T901 is gonna replace the current GE T700 engines on those aircrafts . This engine is gonna be a game - changer , using less fuel but being 50% more powerful than the T700 . It ' ll increase mission payload and improve reach and lethality on the battlefield . With the T901 , the Apache and Black Hawk can complete missions faster , with less aircraft and fuel . This means less reliance on forward arming and refueling points , reducing logistical needs and enhancing performance range . The T901 engine is gonna make air assaults more efficient and effective , getting the job done quicker and with less fuel compared to the T700 . The T901 engine is also gonna help out with the Army Climate Strategy by using advanced technology to reduce sustainment demand . The advanced engine uses predictive logistics and Prognostic and Predictive Maintenance ( PPMx ) , which have components that can diagnose and alert for maintenance . The T901 technology reduces the need for maintenance and waste by using advanced diagnostics and condition - based maintenance . It also allows for sharing of usage , health , and maintenance data across the aviation network . The Engine Health Monitoring System accurately assesses the engine ' s health and prompts maintenance efforts when needed . This need - based maintenance approach reduces demand and improves reliability . It also helps improve accuracy in logistics product data and reduces maintenance costs . The T901 engine incorporates advanced coatings and technologies to increase durability and reduce weight . It can reduce maintenance costs by up to 35% by extending time between overhauls . This technology is part of the Army ' s efforts to modernize and support climate change goals and national security . It also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions , with each aircraft equipped with the T901 saving 45 , 000 pounds annually . Overall , Army aviation will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 133 . 6 million pounds annually once all Apache and Black Hawk aircraft are equipped with the T901 . ITE is helping the Army Climate Strategy mission by improving power solutions and manufacturing processes to make combat more effective and reduce greenhouse gas emissions . The T901 engine , designed for the AH - 64 Apache , uses a mix of additive manufacturing and traditional methods to be 50% more powerful than the T700 , enhancing the ground commander ' s capabilities . By implementing the ACS ' s efforts , the Army aims to decrease its impact on climate change . The T901 engine will enhance Army aviation with increased reach and lethality , supporting the warfighter with improved reliability and sustainability . It aligns with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions . For more information , visit the Army website .
