☷Stony Point achieves repeat Fort Cavazos JROTC Skills Meet victory

Stony Point High School from Round Rock , Texas , took home the top prize at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Skills Meet for the second year in a row at Fort Cavazos on March 23 . The event brought together JROTC cadets from various schools across Central Texas to compete in drill team , color guard , physical training , and academics . Cadet Ensign Riyan Patel , the drill team commander , expressed her excitement about the win and credited their success to hard work and team unity . The competition also allowed schools like Irving High School Marine Corps JROTC to gain valuable experience and broaden their horizons . Overall , the event not only showcased the cadets ' skills but also promoted community relations and provided insight into military life . Sgt . Maj . Isaiah Bennett highlighted the importance of teamwork and how events like these help cultivate future leaders for the armed services . The Killeen High School Army JROTC drill team really impressed the judges with their awesome performance , including some cool acrobatics , and they ended up winning the overall unarmed drill title . The hometown crowd was super proud of the "Roos" as they dominated in the unarmed drill exhibition event and placed in the top three in six other events . Irving High School , a new competitor , came in second in the academic challenge and third in the male PT event . Midway High School Marine Corps JROTC from Waco , Texas , did a great job in the male color guard and came in first in the academic challenge . Belton High School Marine Corps JROTC from Belton , Texas , rocked it in the female color guard and won the overall title , as well as first place in armed drill regulation , female color guard inspection , and female color guard regulation . The Alvarado High School Army JROTC team from Alvarado , Texas , took home first place in armed drill exhibition and male color guard regulation , and they scored the overall armed drill title , placing in the top three in four other events . They really gave reigning champions Stony Point High School Navy JROTC a run for their money . But in the end , Stony Point came out on top , winning first place in armed drill inspection , unarmed drill inspection , and unarmed drill regulation , and placing in the top three in four other events . They proved once again that they are the overall grand champions . Col . Lakicia Stokes , the commander of U . S . Army Garrison - Fort Cavazos , handed out trophies to the cadets and spoke about the importance of the meet in her closing remarks . She mentioned how the meet helps strengthen community relations and provides JROTC programs with a free opportunity to compete and maintain accreditation . She also talked about how her own experience as an Air Force JROTC cadet influenced her military career and encouraged the cadets to make the most of their JROTC experience and use the skills they learn to prepare for their future .
