The Silvus Streamcaster is being used by the 25th Infantry Division to support their participation in Freedom Shield 24 . This exercise is all about getting the Division ready for any scenario by testing their readiness , interoperability , and response capabilities . It ' s an important training opportunity for both the ROK and U . S . military forces . The Division used the Silvus radio network for the first time during a Command Post Exercise ( CPX ) , which is a crucial part of their preparation for Warfighter exercises . These exercises help them improve their warfighting systems and overall readiness . The 25th Infantry Division is equipped with an Integrated Tactical Network ( ITN ) , which provides them with the tools they need for mission command , situational awareness , and air - to - ground integration . The Silvus Streamcaster radio is a great addition to the ITN because it ' s lightweight , portable , and perfect for jungle operations . It weighs only 2 . 5 lbs and can be easily carried by hand or mounted on vehicles . It also requires minimal power , making it versatile and easy to use in different situations . Compared to the Army ' s Terrestrial Transmission Line of Site ( TRiLOS ) , the Streamcaster is a much better option because it ' s smaller , lighter , and doesn ' t need as much power . Overall , the Silvus Streamcaster is a valuable tool for the 25th Infantry Division and helps them improve their command post configurations . When these radios are used smartly , they can share bandwidth from one external transport platform and provide connectivity to multiple sites at the same time . The Silvus Streamcaster has a better waveform technology than the TRiLOS , using MIMO technology with multiple antennas for transmitting and receiving data . This allows for a self - forming and self - healing network that can adapt to changes in real - time . The Silvus Streamcaster also has features that give Soldiers an advantage in contested electromagnetic environments , with low probability of intercept and anti - jamming capabilities . These systems will be essential for maintaining command and control capabilities in challenging environments . Warfighter exercises help us test new technologies and tactics , allowing us to continue improving our readiness . MAJ Justin E . James is the Deputy G6 for the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks , Hawaii , with experience in various communication roles in the military . James graduated from CGSC at Fort Leavenworth , KS and the Signal Captain ' s Career Course at Fort Gordon , GA . He also has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Delaware and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland .
