Applicants showed up for the hiring fair at the Detroit Arsenal . Brig . Gen . Lalor , the TACOM commanding general , welcomed potential employees and talked about the purpose of the fair and how the Army wants to connect with the community . After Brig . Gen . Lalor finished speaking , the attendees clapped . One applicant chatted with Jeff Mounts , the deputy director for field support operations , about career opportunities . Some potential interns talked to an HR professional from the Ground Vehicle Systems Center about internships . On March 21 , the Detroit Arsenal hosted its first - ever hiring fair . Brig . Gen . Michael B . Lalor , the commanding general of the U . S . Army Tank - automotive and Armaments Command , said the goal was to let the local community see what the Army does . People from all over Metro Detroit attended the event , which included on - the - spot interviews , internships , and direct hiring . There were positions available in logistics , IT , finance , accounting , contracting , tech writing , childcare , and golf course maintenance . The fair had something for everyone , and the applicants were grateful for the chance to learn more about the Army and the arsenal . Speaking to a crowd of over 200 applicants at the start of the fair , Lalor said , "I can tell from looking at you that we have the best and brightest interested in our mission . " He continued , saying that it ' s an exciting time to be part of the Army and that they ' re in the midst of a big modernization . Lalor ended by expressing his desire to keep talent in Michigan and his admiration for the region and what they can achieve together . The fair , which went on for four hours , had hiring managers from various Army departments and organizations like TACOM , the Program Executive Office for Combat Support and Combat Service Support , and the Defense Logistics Agency . This event was just the beginning of the Detroit Arsenal ' s efforts to recruit civilians , as Lalor mentioned that the Army is exploring different methods to attract top talent from Michigan .
