When Redstone Arsenal closed from Jan . 15 - 18 because of icy roads , a team of 16 people worked behind the scenes to clear the roads , check the facilities , and handle any issues . Joey Skinner , the Public Works Director , mentioned that these folks worked long hours , stayed in a nearby hotel , and braved the elements . He also commended them for doing an excellent job despite the challenging conditions . Law Enforcement , the Fire Department , and Guard Force also stayed on the installation to ensure life , health , and safety services . The ID Card section at the One Stop was closed for the entire week , affecting over 300 scheduled appointments , as stated by Linda Moseley , the Human Resources Director . Most appointments were rescheduled , and the One Stop extended its hours the following week and even offered Saturday hours for walk - in customers . According to Moseley , the DEERS/RAPIDS ID card section serves over 500 , 000 military personnel , government civilians , government contractors , retired military personnel , and their eligible family members from Alabama , Georgia , Mississippi , and Tennessee . While childcare and youth center programs were closed , Derrick Gould , the director of Family and Morale , Welfare and Recreation , visited those locations during the week of Jan . 15 - 19 to check for any water leaks or damages . Gould emphasized the importance of ensuring that these facilities are in good condition when the installation reopens . He visited the Goss Road Child Development Center , the Mills Road Child Development Center , and the School Age and Youth Centers , and happily reported that everything was okay with no water leaks or damages . However , he did find a few expired items , mostly milk , which he promptly removed . Gould drove a four - wheel drive vehicle around the Arsenal , but still faced challenges when trying to stop on icy surfaces . On Jan . 19 , Gould mentioned that some minor water damage occurred due to burst pipes in certain buildings . The repairs and cleanup were handled by the Directorate of Public Works and base support contractors . The Boots to Business course at the One Stop was rescheduled for Feb . 7 - 8 , according to Mark Scott , the director of the Veterans Business Outreach Center at Mississippi State University . During a recent Commander’s Update Brief , the Directorate of Public Works advised personnel to call Minor Repair at 256 - 876 - 2801 if there are issues with the heating system , lack of water flow , or if water leaks are detected . When calling Minor Repair , it is important to provide the contact number of the person who will grant access to responding personnel .
