Flight students from the Netherlands have been cruising around Fort Novosel in a bright orange limousine for years . The orange color represents their national pride and homage to their royal family . The tradition started with a four - door Cadillac that was decorated with paint , LED lights , and a disco ball . Each class of students would purchase the car from the previous class and add their own accessories . Eventually , the original Cadillac broke down and was sent back to the Netherlands , where it remains on display . The next class then purchased a stretch limousine and painted it orange , continuing the tradition . The current class of students arrived at Fort Novosel to find that the limo had broken down and was being sent back . They quickly found a replacement on Facebook Marketplace and spray painted it neon orange . They later used exterior paint to ensure the color stayed . “We also installed a fancy horn that plays our national anthem . It ' s pretty sweet . ” The legendary Dutch limousine is in Fort Novosel , Alabama , and is full of student pilots from the Netherlands . The third edition of the orange Dutch sedan is equipped with a custom - made horn that plays the Dutch national anthem when honked . Each class sells the limo to the next class for about $100 per person . Once the vehicle is fully paid for within a year or two , the money is used for maintenance and accessories to maintain the sedan tradition . “The limo is just for fun and to have a little bit of our Dutch culture here in Alabama . We all have our own cars to drive too , but for the commute to the flight or for weekend adventures we love to occupy all nine seats and do the ride together , ” explained Van der Elsen . The Dutch student pilots really enjoy watching the excitement that the colorful car brings to people of all ages as it drives past . “Often , little children see the bright orange limousine and get excited when they hear the horn of our national anthem . If you want to hear the horn as you drive by , just wave and we ' ll honk!” Dutch student pilots pose with their iconic orange limousine at Fort Novosel , Alabama , Jan . 25 .
