A biomedical equipment technician is working on a medical device at the U . S . Army Medical Materiel Agency’s Medical Maintenance Operations Division in Hill Air Force Base , Utah . When U . S . Army units need maintenance support for their medical equipment , the U . S . Army Medical Materiel Agency is there to help . The agency recently updated its operating procedures to consolidate all maintenance activities under the Global Combat Support System - Army . This change aims to increase visibility and transparency of work orders at the unit level and align the overall function with other Army commodities . Chief Warrant Officer 3 Richard Hendricks , deputy chief of the agency ' s Maintenance Operations Center - Medical , says , "It ' s been going well . Everyone is getting used to the new system and procedures , and we ' re also learning different ways we can improve . " The Maintenance Operations Center - Medical is the primary point of contact for units needing maintenance support for their medical devices . Units can reach out to usarmy . detrick . usamma . list . m3d - mocm@army . mil for assistance . The center synchronizes sustainment efforts and assists with maintenance support requests , optimizing functional support and life cycle management costs . Services are then routed through the agency ' s three stateside Medical Maintenance Operations Divisions . After an email is sent to the Maintenance Operations Center - Medical , an analysis is conducted to determine the needed services and an RMA number is issued as a tracking number for the service . Units must also send a digital copy of DA Form 5990 for each piece of equipment needing services . This form ensures correct cataloging within the system . The unit receives the RMA number and guidance on where to ship the equipment . The customer enters this information into the work center within the system . The Maintenance Operations Divisions create an internal work order to complete the job on - site before shipping the equipment back to the unit . Tracking information is communicated to the unit so they have visibility and an estimated time of arrival for their equipment . Hendricks stressed the need to make sure units file their Form 5990 and obtain their RMA number before sending in their equipment . In addition , units must include all necessary accessories needed to operate , test , and calibrate each device . MOC - M President Joshua Farnes echoed Hendricks ' statement , adding that it is important to follow all steps to expedite services to units , thus promoting high levels of medical preparedness . "It ' s also important to remember the whole purpose behind this change , " Farnes said . “Our goal here is to increase the visibility of modules and essentially integrate two record - keeping systems into one system that shows the complete maintenance lifecycle of equipment . This enables commanders on the battlefield to see the maintenance status of their equipment in real time , both at the field level and at the sustainment level , ” he said . and be better equipped to assess their readiness levels . ” To learn more about the new operation instructions , visit www . amlc . army . mil/USAMMA/Medical - Maintenance .
