The Cavazos Connector map shows where the military residential areas are located , including barracks , housing areas , and transfer points . The different colored sections make it easy to see the layout of the base for both personnel and visitors . Staff Sgt . Matthew Johnson designed the winning logo for the Cavazos Connector buses , which will be displayed on the fleet . The buses will be used exclusively within the base and have a wrap design by Johnson . Johnson expressed his pride and excitement about his logo being associated with the Cavazos Connector . He emphasized the importance of accessible transportation for Soldiers and their families , as it helps them fulfill their duties and stay connected . The launch of the Cavazos Connector is a big deal for Fort Cavazos , as it will improve the quality of life for Soldiers , civilians , and their families . The fare - free service will be rolled out in phases starting on February 5th . Col . Lakicia Stokes , the commander of Fort Cavazos , highlighted the significance of the project , especially for single Soldiers and families who often share a vehicle . The Cavazos Connector consists of a micro - transit system and a circulator route , providing convenient transportation within and between designated zones . The project is progressing smoothly , according to Jerry Stephens , deputy of the Army Field Support Battalion - Cavazos . “We work closely with the Hill Country Transit District , ” Stevens explained . “We leverage advanced software for seamless travel booking and real - time tracking . ” The next phase will include initial operational testing focused on soldier barracks areas , with a grand reveal on March 2nd . We plan to fine - tune the system ahead of time . This period includes rigorous software testing , route planning , and user education through various media . A comprehensive app similar to Uber and Lyft . “Our goal is to significantly increase mobility for soldiers and their families , reduce traffic congestion , and positively contribute to environmental sustainability , ” Stokes said . The Cavazos Connector is also a major advancement in addressing quality of life issues at the Army level . Mr . Stokes emphasized the important role of Lt . Gen . Sean C . Barnabe , commander of III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos , in championing this initiative . "Lt . Gen . Bernabe ' s advocacy at the highest levels of Army leadership was critical in securing support and funding for this pilot test , " Stokes said . "This is more than just a transportation system . This is a message to the Army leadership about the need and impact of such a program . " Passenger numbers increased impressively during test runs and are expected to increase once full operations begin .
