☷Phoenix Battalion conducts change of responsibility

Command Sgt . Maj . Donald A . Petrie of the 303rd Ordnance Battalion ( Explosive Ordnance Disposal ) , 8th Military Police Brigade , received the unit colors from Lt . Col . Clinton E . Pierce , the "Phoenix" Battalion commander , in a laid - back change of responsibility ceremony on Hamilton Field , Schofield Barracks , Hawaii , on January 17 , 2024 . The 8th Military Police Brigade deploys globally for various tasks such as area security , mobility support , internment , law enforcement , intelligence operations , and managing chemical , biological , radiological , and nuclear consequences . Command Sgt . Maj . Brie E . Kotula , the outgoing command sergeant major , bid farewell and delivered her final speech to the 303rd EOD formation during the same event . Col . Charles Green , the commander of the 8th Military Police Brigade , congratulated Command Sgt . Maj . Kotula afterwards . The change of responsibility ceremony marked the transition of leadership from Kotula to Petrie . During Kotula ' s speech , she thanked all the important guests and Soldiers who were there and expressed her gratitude for her time as the battalion ' s senior enlisted leader . She talked about the amazing moments , laughs , and camaraderie they all shared together . Kotula also mentioned how grateful she was for her mentors , leaders , and staff who helped her have a successful tour of duty as the command sergeant major . She commended the battalion staff for always stepping up , even though they were a small team , and getting the job done . Kotula also expressed her admiration for the subordinate units and their daily accomplishments , and thanked them for their commitment and expertise . She ended her speech by welcoming Petrie and giving him words of encouragement . When Petrie spoke , he assured everyone of his dedication to serve with and for them , and expressed his excitement for the upcoming tour . He thanked the Soldiers in advance for what he believed would be a fulfilling experience . Petrie takes over as the Phoenix Battalion command sergeant major after serving as the previous deputy commandant at the U . S . Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss , Texas . The 8th Military Police Brigade is responsible for conducting various operations worldwide in support of the maneuver commander .
