☷Dr James Watson Inducted into SES Corps

Dr . James Watson , the Engineering Director for the U . S . Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center ( DEVCOM CBC ) , was officially welcomed into the Senior Executive Service ( SES ) Corps during a ceremony at Aberdeen Proving Ground ' s Edgewood campus on January 18 . In his role , Watson oversees a team of around 500 engineers , scientists , and other skilled professionals who work on developing and maintaining Chemical , Biological , Radiological , and Nuclear ( CBRN ) capabilities for the military . This prestigious recognition places Watson among over 8 , 000 other members of the SES Corps , which was established in 1978 to fill key governmental positions . During the pinning ceremony , Watson ' s colleagues and friends joined both in person and virtually to celebrate his achievement . Dr . Eric Moore , DEVCOM ' s Deputy to the Commanding General , officiated the ceremony and praised Watson ' s contributions to the Department of Defense ( DoD ) and his leadership qualities . Watson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the support of those around him , emphasizing the importance of teamwork in his success . With over 12 years of experience in the chemical biological defense field , Watson brings valuable expertise to his new position . Before his current position , Watson worked as the Deputy Program Executive Officer for the Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives ( PEO ACWA ) at Aberdeen Proving Ground . He assisted the Program Executive Officer in overseeing operations at the Pueblo Chemical Agent - Destruction Pilot Plant , the Blue Grass Chemical Agent - Destruction Pilot Plant , and PEO ACWA’s Anniston Field Office . Under Watson ' s leadership , the PEO ACWA team successfully destroyed the last munition in the U . S . chemical weapons stockpile . Prior to joining the PEO ACWA team , Watson was an Associate Director at DEVCOM CBC , where he led strategic initiatives and oversaw the BioTesting Division . During his time there , he successfully brought the division back to full operational status after a five - year pause . Watson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri in 2000 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Maryland in 2006 . He has been awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal in 2022 and the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal in 2023 .
