In a small town in New Hampshire , a Guardsman from the 157th Air Refueling Wing was driving down a quiet road by the river on her way to the gym one early morning . It was still dark outside when she noticed a man walking towards the water without any reflective clothing . Concerned about his safety , she decided to turn around and offer him help . The man explained that his truck had broken down and he was on his way to see his family . She kindly offered to drive him to the gas station and call a tow truck . As they waited for the tow truck to arrive , they discovered that the truck had some serious damage . Worried about the man ' s well - being , she called the police who then contacted his son . It turns out that the man had dementia and was confused about his destination . Thanks to her timely intervention , they were able to prevent any further harm from happening to him . Her superiors were not surprised by her compassion and dedication , as she always goes above and beyond in her work . They commended her for stopping and taking the time to help someone in need . Despite feeling nervous , she couldn ' t ignore her instincts and knew it was the right thing to do . Her quick thinking and kindness brought the man back to his family and she was just grateful to have been able to assist him .
