Charles Harrison , a 35 - year - old guy from Binghamton , got sentenced today to spend four years in federal prison for having a gun even though he wasn ' t supposed to ( he ' s a convicted felon ) . U . S . Attorney Carla B . Freedman and U . S . Marshal for the Northern District of New York David L . McNulty made the announcement . Basically , back in 2012 , Harrison got convicted for being involved in some drug stuff in the Northern District of New York . He was serving the end of his sentence at a halfway house in Connecticut , but then he ran away from there . So , the U . S . Marshals found him hiding under a mattress in an apartment in Binghamton , New York , on March 29 , 2022 . And guess what? They also found a loaded gun in the next room . At the trial , they had evidence that connected Harrison to the gun , and the jury decided he was guilty of having it since he ' s a felon . United States District Judge David N . Hurd also said Harrison has to be under supervision for three years after he gets out of prison . The United States Marshals Service led the investigation , but they got help from the U . S . Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives ( ATF ) , the New York State Police , the Broome County Sheriff’s Office , and the City of Binghamton Police Department . Assistant U . S . Attorneys Jessica N . Carbone and Thomas R . Sutcliffe handled the case in court .
