This budget aligns with the 2022 National Defense Strategy and the President ' s National Security Strategy , guiding the Department of Defense through what the President has labeled a crucial decade . The NDS outlines key defense priorities , such as defending the homeland , deterring strategic attacks , addressing threats from countries like China and Russia , as well as terrorist groups . The budget of $849 . 8 billion for FY 2025 will enable the Department to advance these goals and position our forces for success . Investments will be made in capabilities to maintain a strong joint force , with a focus on challenges from China and Russia . The budget also includes funding for research , development , and procurement to enhance our combat forces across all domains . We ' re looking to allocate $49 . 2 billion towards updating our nuclear deterrent , $28 . 4 billion for missile defense , $9 . 8 billion for long - range fires , $33 . 7 billion for space capabilities , and $14 . 5 billion for cyber activities in the FY 2025 budget . Additionally , we ' re focusing on strategic readiness and modernization to meet future challenges while maintaining current levels of readiness . We ' re all about taking care of our people in the military , so we ' re giving a nice pay raise and bumping up housing and food allowances . Plus , we ' re putting extra money into commissaries , family housing , and barracks construction to make sure our service members and their families are well taken care of . There ' s also funding to prevent suicide and sexual assault , because the well - being of our troops is a top priority . Another priority for our department is to invest in our technological advantage to stay prepared for the future . Our approach , outlined in the National Defense Science and Technology Strategy , focuses on three main areas: joint mission , fast and widespread implementation of capabilities , and strengthening research and development . The budget request for FY 2025 includes funding for various technological investments , such as science and technology , artificial intelligence , and command and control systems . Additionally , we are addressing manufacturing and production challenges to enhance our industrial base and make supply chains more resilient . The National Defense Industrial Strategy emphasizes the importance of resilient supply chains , workforce readiness , flexible acquisition , and economic deterrence . By aligning our efforts with these priorities , we aim to improve coordination and identify opportunities for investments and policy adjustments . The budget request also includes funding for munitions , the submarine industrial base , and microelectronics to enhance our capabilities . Additionally , there are investments allocated for facility maintenance , construction , and family housing programs to support our ongoing modernization efforts . These efforts help our people , strengthen our defense , and improve our important infrastructure . The investments we ' re making include: $8 . 7 billion for facilities to improve readiness; $2 . 5 billion for projects supporting deterrence initiatives in Europe , the Pacific , and the Ground - Based Strategic Deterrent program; $2 . 0 billion for crucial improvements to our naval infrastructure; and $2 . 3 billion for the construction of various quality - of - life facilities like barracks , dormitories , medical clinics , and schools . We ' re always committed to responsibly using taxpayer funds and improving our performance . We ' ve made significant progress in improving our systems , modernizing our operations , and attracting and retaining talented individuals . It ' s important to align our resources with our evolving defense needs to maintain an advantage over our global competitors and create a safer America and a more stable , open , and prosperous world . The FY 2025 Defense Budget sets us up to support our people , allies , and partners during this crucial decade and address the defense challenges our country faces now and in the future .
