☷Camp Zama unit offers taste of Army life to cadets culinary students

A group of cadets from Zama Middle High School in Japan participated in a field day organized by the 35th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion . They got to try out different activities , like flipping tires , crawling through obstacles , and navigating a confidence course . The field day also included a chance for the cadets to experience aspects of Army life , such as the Army Combat Fitness Test . Overall , it was a fun and informative day for everyone involved . In Camp Zama , Japan , a group of Junior ROTC cadets , wearing dirty and sweaty combat uniforms , couldn ' t help but smile after a tough morning of obstacle courses and physical training . The 35th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion organized a field day to introduce the Zama Middle High School cadets to the Army Combat Fitness Test and a confidence course hidden in the woods . To make things even better , around 15 culinary arts students from the school assisted the Soldiers in preparing lunch using a mobile kitchen trailer . Capt . Alena Leshchyk , the event organizer , expressed her unit ' s enthusiasm in showcasing Army life to the students , as the event had been postponed due to the pandemic . She believes it ' s a step towards building resilient Soldiers and family members and also offers the students a glimpse into the daily life of the Army . Before enjoying a well - deserved meal , Cadet Roman Romero , the JROTC battalion commander , remarked that the gloomy weather was perfect for the cadets to test their courage and strength . He believed that after this experience , they would emerge as stronger individuals . Soldiers from the 35th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion hosted a fun day for Zama Middle High School cadets to learn about Army life . Cadets Gabriel Simpkins , Thomas Diaz , and Liliana Fennessey tackled a confidence course together at Camp Zama , Japan on March 12 , 2024 . Cadet Gabriel Simpkins poured water on his head and smiled at Cadet Thomas Diaz after they successfully completed the course . Cadet Emerson Moore , a sophomore and battalion command sergeant major , described the obstacle course as a challenging but rewarding experience that helped them grow as a team . Staff Sgt . Kyle Chasen , operations noncommissioned officer , enjoyed guiding the cadets through the course and witnessing their teamwork . He saw the event as a chance to educate young people about the military and instill confidence in them . The main goal was to provide the cadets with an unforgettable experience , regardless of whether they choose to join the military in the future .
