☷Cordell Hull Lake staff garners Water Safety Team Award

At a workshop in Paducah , Kentucky on March 5 , 2024 , Tim Dunn from the U . S . Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Operations Division presented the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Water Safety Team Award to the staff at Cordell Hull Lake for their exceptional work in promoting water safety during the 2023 recreation season and the project’s 50th Anniversary activities . The team , consisting of Resource Manager Kenny Claywell and Park Rangers Ashley Webster , Brad Potts , Lucas Hix , Hunter Humphrey , Stone Fagan , and Nathan Pennington , was commended for their efforts in educating the public about safe water recreation . Despite not all team members being present at the award presentation , the commanding general praised the team for their dedication and leadership in organizing over 75 events throughout the season to emphasize the importance of water safety . Webster , in particular , was recognized for her role in leading the Water Safety Program and implementing various initiatives to engage both visitors and local communities in promoting water safety . Webster mentioned how proud they were when adults wore life jackets around kids , and this pride was evident on the faces of everyone . They believe that setting a positive example for the future is important . The staff at Cordell Hull Lake did not expect to receive an award for promoting water safety , but they are grateful for the recognition as it shows their efforts are making a difference in the community . Potts played a key role in teaching boating safety to new team members and sharing his expertise through public service announcements . He emphasized the importance of educating visitors about boating safety laws and equipment requirements . Hix , Humphrey , Fagan , and Pennington also contributed significantly to promoting water safety through various programs and events . The team responded to a drowning incident , which highlighted the need for proactive safety measures and education . Claywell acknowledged the extra effort put in by the new team of park rangers during Cordell Hull Dam and Lake ' s 50th Anniversary . The team did a great job promoting water safety , even in the face of challenges . Claywell was impressed by their dedication and the impact they made , which is what this team award is all about .
