Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team , 10th Mountain Division are sharpening their blades at the Forged in Fire event . Staff Sgt . Lin Lin , a chaplain’s assistant , is using a forging hammer named Big Blue . The motto of Fort Johnson is all about "Forging the Warrior Spirit , " and the 3rd Brigade Combat Team , 10th Mountain Division is taking that motto to heart by creating resilient warriors . The spiritual readiness initiatives led by chaplains and sponsored by command blend spiritual resilience training with the popular show "Forged in Fire . " The program , known as Forged in Resiliency , has received positive feedback from both new and experienced Soldiers . The three - day program involves Soldiers reflecting on their backgrounds , purpose , and overcoming challenges through knife - making . The goal is for Soldiers to become part of a trusted team and apply these principles in their unit and personal life . Chaplain Brooks emphasized that spirituality in the Army is not just about religion , but also about core values that drive a Soldier and give their life meaning . "We help them understand why this is important and how it can help them become trusted professionals in the Army , " Brooks said . "The citizens of the United States have given us a tremendous amount of responsibility with our tanks and weapons , and we have to be people of purpose and Having morals and ethics that drive our decisions . " Specs . David Fraser and his spouse , Private 1st Class . Madison Frazier participated in a recent resiliency training with 3/10 , 2nd Battalion , 4th Infantry Regiment . For Madison , this is her second time taking the course . "It ' s great , " she said . "The chaplain walks you through every step of the process and lets you know how it relates to the challenges you ' ll face . I was able to incorporate every step of the knifemaking process into my life . " David agreed , and added that he learned new aspects of spirituality . He said he knew the Army had many field manuals , but never knew spirituality had its own: FM 7 - 22 . "I ' ve always believed that if you ' re in the military , you have to be a soldier first , but I know family is just as important , " he said . "This show has brought my wife and I closer together . "
