HUD just announced the largest amount of federal funding ever provided through the Continuum of Care program . Over 7 , 000 projects will receive grants to expand housing and services for people experiencing homelessness , including survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault . Secretary Marcia L . Fudge emphasized the importance of getting people off the streets and into permanent homes with the necessary support . The funding will go towards housing assistance , supportive services , planning , and data collection . This historic announcement comes at a time when homelessness rates are increasing across the country . Additionally , there will be funds allocated for projects supporting survivors of domestic violence and new grants for youth homelessness programs . HUD encourages communities to prioritize housing solutions and supportive services over treatment programs or sobriety requirements . HUD also expanded the Continuum of Care program to support the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 and help rural areas address the challenges of serving homeless individuals . These changes will provide more support for underserved populations . Successful applicants showed their commitment to ending homelessness by partnering with health agencies and housing organizations . Many communities are working together to reduce unsheltered homelessness . The Biden - Harris Administration has been prioritizing resources and programs to reconnect homeless individuals with housing . Homelessness has been increasing , but the administration ' s pandemic - era protections and programs have prevented evictions and kept homelessness stable . The administration is also working with state and local leaders to support their efforts . President Biden has taken steps to increase housing supply , lower costs , and protect renters . The administration is focused on reversing the rise in homelessness and has released a strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness . The FY2024 Budget calls for further action to address homelessness , including investments to lower rental costs and provide vouchers for low - income veterans and foster care youth . HUD remains committed to ending homelessness for all and promoting racial equity and anti - discrimination policies . See the HUD website for a breakdown of awards by state . The total amount awarded is $3 , 157 , 262 , 992 .
