President Biden ' s Investing in America Agenda is providing funding for 30 projects across 16 states and Washington , D . C . These projects aim to improve access to electric vehicle charging , create jobs , and support clean transportation solutions . Since President Biden took office , the number of electric vehicles on the road has significantly increased , and these investments are an important step towards the administration ' s goal of establishing a national network of 500 , 000 public EV charging ports by 2030 . The funding will also contribute to reaching net - zero emissions by 2050 . Secretary of Energy Jennifer M . Granholm stated that the agenda supports the development of an affordable and reliable EV charging infrastructure , built by American workers . Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the administration ' s focus on winning the EV race , creating jobs , and promoting a clean energy manufacturing economy . The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation , led by Gabe Klein , expressed pride in funding these transformative clean transportation projects that cater to local needs , generate good - paying jobs , encourage innovation , and make electric transportation accessible to all . The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure ( NEVI ) Formula Program and the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Program , administered by the Federal Highway Administration and supported by the Joint Office , are investing $7 . 5 billion to establish a convenient and reliable national EV charging network . Today ' s announcement includes $46 . 5 million in funding for these efforts . We ' ve got 5 million bucks coming in from the President ' s Investing in America agenda , which will be handled by the Joint Office . This money is going towards important areas that need attention , like making sure we have reliable EV charging infrastructure for everyone as transportation electrification keeps growing .
