☷US Department of Labor recovers $479K in back wages for workers with temporary visas US workers at Missouri vegetable farm

The US Department of Labor has recovered nearly $480 , 000 in unpaid wages for workers with temporary visas and American workers at a vegetable farm in Missouri . Following an investigation , Missouri Vegetable Farm LLC and its owners , Benjy Proffer and Robert Proffer , have agreed to pay back wages to 208 workers . This includes $394 , 159 to 102 temporary visa workers and American workers , as well as $85 , 824 to 22 American workers . The farm was also fined $38 , 289 for violations . The investigation found that the farm failed to properly compensate workers for overtime and did not pay the required wage rate . The recovery of these wages will greatly impact the lives of the workers involved . The H - 2A temporary agricultural program allows agricultural employers to bring in foreign workers for temporary or seasonal labor . Missouri Vegetable Farm LLC is part of the Proffer Company , a family - owned wholesale produce company .
