The US Department of Labor has managed to recover $151K in back wages and damages for 64 guards at a security company in Northville , Michigan . The company , Koda Group Inc . , was found guilty of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ) by misclassifying its guards as independent contractors instead of employees . They also failed to pay overtime and neglected to post a notice about FLSA regulations . As a result , Koda Group Inc . and its owner , Timothy Gilbert , have been ordered to pay the guards a total of $151 , 208 . The company has agreed to pay the amount in monthly installments and to adhere to federal wage protections moving forward .
