I ' m glad that Europe has made decisions to provide financial support and Germany has increased its support with weapons . Hopefully , the House in Congress will follow suit and provide the necessary support . Without the help of the United States and European states , Ukraine won ' t stand a chance in defending itself . Today , let ' s also talk about strengthening NATO ahead of the 75th NATO Summit this summer . And we should discuss the latest developments in the Middle East , like the hostage release and providing humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza . And of course , we need to make sure we preserve the space for a two - state solution down the road . It won ' t be easy , but I believe we can do it . PRESIDENT BIDEN: Hey Olaf , great to have you back . Thanks for making the effort to be here . It ' s been about two years since we last met here and you were talking about the need for the United States and Germany to work together . Well , we ' ve been doing just that and we need to keep it up . Olaf , thanks so much for being here . We have a lot to cover . The floor is yours , man . You know , we gotta pass a national security spending package in Congress right now . Our House members are being a little hesitant , but hopefully it ' s just politics . We need to include funding for Ukraine to help them defend themselves against Russia ' s aggression . By the way , thanks for doubling Germany ' s military aid to Ukraine this year . It ' s a big deal and we need to step up our game . CHANCELLOR SCHOLZ: Yeah , thanks for having me and giving us the chance to continue our ongoing conversations . Germany and the United States have a role to play in maintaining peace in the world . Especially with Russia ' s ongoing aggression against Ukraine . It ' s ridiculous how Putin keeps lying about the history of this war just to further his own imperialistic goals . We need to support Ukraine and give them a fighting chance . Thanks . There ' s so much at stake , they better step up . But , I gotta say , it would be pretty messed up if the United States Congress fails to support Ukraine . Like , seriously neglectful .
