Hey everyone , check it out! The Biden - Harris crew just dropped some big news . They ' re planning to invest over $5 billion in research , development , and job training for semiconductors . They ' re all about boosting R&D in the US and making sure we ' re leading the way in this tech . They ' re even setting up a National Semiconductor Technology Center and partnering with some private companies to make it happen . This investment is gonna help us create new tech faster and cheaper , beef up our national security , and give workers more opportunities in the semiconductor industry . It ' s time for the US to take back our place as the leaders in this field . Let ' s do this!We ' ll continue to involve a broad range of stakeholders , including senior leaders from various federal agencies , industry experts , academia , labor , and workforce training providers , to ensure the success of the NSTC ' s workforce activities . Our goal is to launch these activities in summer 2024 . Commerce recently announced their intention to invest at least $200 million in a CHIPS Manufacturing USA Institute , with the goal of creating a unique semiconductor manufacturing digital twin institute . This institute will provide a low - cost platform for innovators to replicate and experiment with physical manufacturing processes , ultimately reducing chip development and manufacturing costs , improving development cycle time , and accelerating the adoption of innovative semiconductor manufacturing technologies . Additionally , Commerce plans to fund up to $300 million in advanced packaging of substrates and substrate materials , aiming to enhance system performance and support various semiconductor applications . Furthermore , Commerce has already allocated over $100 million in funding for the CHIPS Metrology program , which focuses on developing measurement instruments , methods , and models for advanced microelectronics design and manufacturing . These initiatives align with the Administration ' s efforts in promoting research , development , and innovation in the United States through the CHIPS and Science Act . Other recent accomplishments include the support of innovation ecosystems in 10 U . S . regions and the establishment of the National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology ( Natcast ) as the operator of the NSTC . The Administration has also designated 31 Regional Tech Hubs , with a specific focus on fostering innovation in semiconductor manufacturing .
