A guy named Brandale Swails , who ' s 29 and from Tampa , is facing charges for robbing a gas station and using a gun during the crime . If he ' s found guilty , he could be looking at a minimum of seven years in federal prison . According to court documents , on October 15 , 2023 , Swails rolled up to a gas station on his bike , went inside , pulled out a gun , and demanded money from the clerk . The clerk hid behind the counter while Swails hopped over it . Swails threatened to shoot the clerk if he didn ' t open the register and hand over $100 bills . He then forced the clerk into a bathroom at gunpoint and eventually made off with some cash on his bike . Two weeks later , Swails was caught hiding in a bedroom closet and arrested . An indictment is basically just a formal charge , and Swails is innocent until proven guilty . The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives ( ATF ) worked together on the investigation , and Assistant U . S . Attorney Diego F . Novaes will handle the prosecution . This case is part of a program called Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence in communities . The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26 , 2021 , focusing on building trust , supporting community organizations , setting enforcement priorities , and measuring results .
