Hey , thanks for the intro , Kylie . I really appreciate your leadership at CHIPS . Welcome to the Department of Commerce , especially during Black History Month . The CHIPS for America program is gonna have a huge impact on communities all over the country . Semiconductors are everywhere in our lives and driving technological innovation . Thanks to President Biden , we ' re investing $50 billion to boost our domestic semiconductor industry . It ' s gonna strengthen our national security , drive American innovation , make our supply chains stronger , and create a ton of good jobs . But we need more workers to meet this moment , from engineers to researchers . We gotta invest in our workforce and make it more diverse . I ' ve even called on colleges to triple the number of semiconductor graduates . But the government can ' t do it alone . We need everyone , from industry to labor to educational institutions , to work together to build a skilled and diverse workforce . And we can ' t forget about staying ahead in artificial intelligence . It ' s important for our security and economy . That ' s why the CHIPS funding includes $11 billion for semiconductor R&D . And this is where HBCUs come in . You guys are crucial to our goals . With the launch of the HBCU CHIPS Network , in partnership with Georgia Tech , we ' re gonna make sure we have the talent and innovation we need while also closing the gaps for Black Americans . I want you to think about how your HBCUs can work with private companies to get graduates ready for the workforce . If you have any ideas , let my team know . CHIPS for America is our chance to tap into our country ' s greatest strengths: our innovation and diverse talent . Together , we ' re gonna accomplish something huge . Thanks again for being here today and for being willing to join the HBCU CHIPS Network . This work is really important , and we know that by partnering with you , we can make CHIPS for America a huge success and bring more Black Americans into our awesome innovation ecosystem .
