Hey , check it out! Michael Latrelle Simpson , a 23 - year - old dude from Ocala , just pleaded guilty to having a gun even though he ' s a convicted felon . He could be looking at up to 10 years in prison . The cops stopped the car he was in back in January and found a handgun near him . They even found his DNA on the gun . Turns out , Simpson has been in trouble with the law before , with stuff like battery and fleeing from the cops . And get this , as a felon , he ain ' t supposed to have any firearms . The FBI and the Ocala Police Department worked on this case , and now it ' s being handled by Assistant U . S . Attorneys Robert E . Bodnar , Jr . and Sarah Janette Swartzberg . This whole thing is part of a program called Project Safe Neighborhoods , which is all about reducing violent crime and gun violence . The Department of Justice is really cracking down on this stuff , and they ' re focused on making our communities safer . Tampa Field Division is all over it .
