☷HUD AND CENSUS BUREAU REPORT NEW RESIDENTIAL SALES IN JANUARY 2024

Hey , check out these new stats on residential sales for January 2024! According to the U . S . Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development , sales of new single - family houses were estimated to be at a rate of 661 , 000 , which is a slight increase from December . The median sales price for these new houses was $420 , 700 , and the average sales price was $534 , 300 . At the end of January , there were about 456 , 000 new houses for sale , which is an 8 . 3 month supply based on the current sales rate . Keep an eye out for the February report coming on March 25 , 2024 . These stats are estimated from surveys and may have some variability , but they give us a good idea of what ' s happening in the housing market . Hey , just wanted to let you know that starting in April 2024 , we ' ll be updating the sales price ranges for new residential sales . We want to make sure we ' re reflecting the current distribution of new home prices . We ' ll also be introducing new price groupings in our time series file for new houses sold and for sale by price range . You can check out some example tables on our website before we release them . We ' ll also be recalculating the data from January 2020 to March 2024 to include any additional info and revisions , and we ' ll release it with the new price groupings . The data from 2002 to 2019 will be archived separately with the old price groupings . Oh , and just a heads up , we ' ll be revising the Quarterly Sales by Price and Financing , the price index for Quarterly Single - Family Houses Sold , and any tables with historical median and average sales price data between January 2020 and March 2024 . And if you see a 90 percent confidence interval that includes zero , it means we don ' t have enough statistical evidence to say there ' s a difference .
