In Vicenza , Italy , Giulio Rigodanzo , from the Central Processing Facility ( CPF ) , is busy stirring some Porcini mushrooms before cooking his delicious risotto . He ' s preparing this Italian dish for the newcomers attending the "Benvenuti" class at the U . S . Army Garrison Italy Army Community Service ( ACS ) on February 21 , 2024 . Rigodanzo shows off one of the Porcini mushrooms he personally found in the Alps , specifically the South Tyrol region , to Col . Scott Horrigan , the commander of the U . S . Army Garrison Italy . He proudly volunteers to cook this traditional Italian dish for the newcomers , as it has become a tradition to offer a freshly cooked meal on their first day of class . The "Benvenuti" program is part of the Army Community Service and aims to help newcomers get acquainted with Italian culture and provide practical information about living in Italy . Jolly Miller , the ACS Division Chief , expresses pride in helping newcomers transition smoothly into the country . Along with cultural material , the attendees of the three - day class are given the recipe for the dish prepared on February 21 . Miller mentions how fortunate they were to have Giulio Rigodanzo , a skilled Italian cook , to prepare the meal from scratch . Rigodanzo , who works as the Installation Sponsorship Liaison for the garrison , has participated in the "Benvenuti" program before and understands the challenges faced by newcomers during their transition . When asked to choose a dish , Rigodanzo decided on the Risotto with Porcini mushrooms recipe . He specifically selected Porcini mushrooms that he personally foraged in the South Tyrol region , wanting to share the tradition of mushroom foraging deeply rooted in Italian and European culture .
