U . S . Army Specialist Denzil Paulsingh , a specialist in chemical , biological , radiological , and nuclear operations from the 772nd Military Police Company of the Massachusetts National Guard , took a photo during the Justified Accord 2024 exercise in Kenya . The exercise , which is the largest in East Africa for the U . S . Africa Command , ran from February 26th to March 7th and included personnel and units from 23 nations . This multinational exercise helps prepare the U . S . joint force and regional partners for missions mandated by the UN and AU , while also promoting cooperation in humanitarian and crisis response efforts . During his time in Kenya , Paulsingh , who is originally from Guyana , was struck by the beautiful scenery , friendly people , and tasty food . He also found similarities between Kenya and his home country , such as both places having English as an official language and experiencing similar conditions , like using camp - style showers . Paulsingh is currently participating in a big military exercise in East Africa organized by U . S . Africa Command , happening from Feb . 26 - March 7 . This year ' s exercise in Kenya involves over 1 , 000 service members and units from 23 countries . The Massachusetts National Guard collaborates with the Kenya Defence Forces through a State Partnership Program established in 2015 , and they regularly exchange military practices . At the exercise , the 772nd MP Co . from the U . S . is the main training group , focusing on activities like traffic control , detainee operations , and responding to enemy contact . Paulsingh mentioned how impressed he is with the professionalism and hospitality of the KDF MPs . The goal of the exercise is to enhance cooperation in humanitarian and crisis response operations . Paulsingh also found out that another person from Guyana , U . S . Army Master Sgt . Simone ( Sam ) Loncke , is at the exercise . Loncke , who has been with SETAF - AF for over two years , enjoys training with KDF partners in Kenya . They both feel a sense of connection as fellow Guyanese . While they have different roles at the exercise , Loncke is in charge of coordinating force protection in the Kenya area of operations , ensuring the safety of all participants with the help of armed KDF escorts . Loncke moves around a lot , making sure everyone is safe in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya . Meanwhile , Paulsingh and his military police buddies stay at the new Counter Insurgency Terrorism and Stability Operations Training Centre in Nanyuki . This training center is a collaboration between Kenya , the U . K . , and the U . S . Paulsingh thinks the view of Mt . Kenya from the center is mind - blowing . He takes pictures and asks his fellow Soldiers how they ' re doing , making sure they have what they need to make their lives easier in the field . He knows it can be tough out there , having just returned from a deployment to Kuwait . Loncke enjoys supporting Soldiers during the exercise and hopes to be back next year . Both Loncke and Paulsingh believe that if they can depend on each other during training , they can do it in a real - world situation too . Paulsingh also stays in touch with his wife and daughter back home in Dennisport , Massachusetts . He appreciates the support from his hometown while he ' s in Kenya .
