The instructors at the 83rd United States Army Reserve Readiness Training Center ( ARRTC ) under the 100th Training Division had 32 soldiers graduate from the Basic Leaders Course ( BLC ) . These soldiers were motivated through the Army Combat Fitness Test , which included exercises like hand release push - ups and the sprint drag carry . Before being tested , the soldiers also went through Physical Readiness Training preparatory drill rehearsals . The course , held at Joint Base Dix McGuire from February 2nd to February 27th , 2024 , is for specialists who aspire to become sergeants . It provides them with the basic knowledge and skills needed to become Non - Commissioned Officers ( NCOs ) . The soldiers learn various tasks such as land navigation , drill and ceremony , and public speaking . They are taught to not only perform these tasks but also to teach their own soldiers how to do them properly . The instructors focus on teaching based on Army doctrine and regulations , ensuring that the soldiers understand the reasons behind each task . They also have real - world experience to share with the students , showing them what effective leadership looks like . 1st Class Kleiner said they were the first examples of what a leader should be . "It ' s our job to develop the next generation of noncommissioned officers . We can set the trend for the next generation of noncommissioned officers to lead according to Army regulations . " I want to develop confidence in myself , ” said Spc . "This is one of the things I was able to take away from this course , and if I can instill that same confidence in my soldiers before they report to the BLC , I can encourage them , " Dela Cruz said .
