On Sunday , March 3 , the Minerals Security Partnership ( MSP ) partners got together in Toronto for a principals’ meeting . This meeting took place during the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada annual convention , which is the biggest mining event in the world . The main focus of the meeting was responsible investment in critical minerals , and the goal was to strengthen collaboration between the MSP and other like - minded partners . The MSP aims to speed up the development of diverse and sustainable critical minerals supply chains by working with governments and industry to provide targeted financial and diplomatic support for strategic projects . The MSP partners are committed to promoting high environmental , social , and governance ( ESG ) and labor standards in the global minerals sector . They pledge to support projects that meet these standards , promote local value addition , and benefit workers and communities , recognizing the benefits of clean energy for all countries . The meeting was chaired by Jose W . Fernandez , U . S . Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth , Energy , and the Environment . The MSP is happy to welcome Estonia as its newest partner . Estonia plays a significant role in the production and processing of rare earth elements and will be a valuable addition to the MSP . The MSP partners have announced the establishment of the MSP Forum , which aims to formalize and expand their existing engagements with minerals producing countries . The focus will be on advancing and accelerating projects that meet high ESG and labor standards , as well as discussing policies that contribute to diverse and resilient supply chains . The policy dialogue between critical minerals producing and consuming countries will address key challenges such as sustainable production , local value addition , regulatory cooperation , transparency , predictability , and pricing challenges related to ESG standards . The MSP Forum aims to have a broad and balanced membership of critical minerals producing and consuming countries . The MSP partners also had a meeting with several countries from the Western Hemisphere , including Argentina , Brazil , Chile , Jamaica , Mexico , and Peru . They discussed critical mineral supply chains , project development , and opportunities and challenges in mining , as well as midstream and downstream processing . Governments , project developers , and investors all have a crucial role in de - risking and funding critical minerals projects that increase global production , promote supply chain diversification , protect the environment , and benefit local communities .
