The DOE is giving out $22 million to support the expansion of clean energy projects , making it easier for communities to access the benefits of clean energy . This funding will help improve the planning and permitting processes for large - scale renewable energy facilities in six states . The goal is to make it easier for local governments and communities to plan for and evaluate these projects . The Biden - Harris Administration is committed to achieving a 100% clean electricity sector by 2035 and a net - zero emissions economy by 2050 , with a focus on solar , wind , and energy storage projects . Secretary Granholm emphasized the importance of addressing barriers to deploying clean energy and providing resources to help communities access clean energy resources tailored to their needs . The goal is to increase the deployment of clean energy projects through meaningful community engagement , which can lead to benefits such as workforce development , grid resilience , and electricity bill savings .
