☷Biden Harris Administration Announces $5 Million to Strengthen Domestic Manufacturing Capabilities and Support Small and Medium Sized Manufacturers

U.S. Department of Energy
| 13| 2
President Biden ' s Investing in America Agenda is providing funding to support 37 new small and medium - sized manufacturers . This funding will help these manufacturers improve energy efficiency , lower costs , increase productivity , and reduce industrial emissions . The U . S . Department of Energy ( DOE ) has announced nearly $5 million from the Industrial Assessment Centers ( IAC ) Implementation Grants program for these manufacturers . This is part of the Biden - Harris Administration ' s commitment to addressing the climate crisis . The program is also being reopened for more applications , allowing manufacturers to continue applying for grants throughout the next year . The IAC Implementation Grants program , managed by the Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains Office ( MESC ) , provides up to $300 , 000 per manufacturer to implement energy assessment recommendations . The projects are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 17 million pounds per year . This aligns with the Biden - Harris Administration ' s efforts to revitalize American manufacturing , create jobs , promote energy and environmental justice , and work towards a net - zero economy by 2050 . U . S . Secretary of Energy Jennifer M . Granholm highlighted the administration ' s commitment to the clean energy revolution and reducing harmful carbon emissions . The funding provided by the Investing in America agenda aims to support decarbonization solutions in the industrial sector and improve energy management systems . These grants will help small and medium - sized manufacturers leverage federal support and local expertise to make cost - effective improvements in energy efficiency , competitiveness , and emissions reduction . The IAC Program , managed by MESC , has been providing energy assessments for over 40 years , identifying potential energy savings opportunities for manufacturers . Nine new energy assessment providers have been announced for SMMs , eligible for funding through MESC ' s IAC Implementation Grants program . This round of 37 implementation grants will receive $4 . 8 million in grant funding , matched by $5 . 9 million in industry investment . The grants support various projects like solar installations , lighting upgrades , and electrifying industrial equipment . Some projects will benefit disadvantaged communities , aligning with President Biden ' s Justice40 Initiative . The program is open for year - round applications , with the next deadline on March 31 , 2024 . Starting April 1 , 2024 , eligible SMMs can receive up to $300 , 000 in grant funding per funding round . For SMMs applying for an award that puts them over $300 , 000 in total grant funding , the new application should focus on assessment recommendations that have not been previously addressed . The IAC Program team will be available for monthly "office hour" sessions to address any questions about the grant program . To sign up for the next session on April 16 , 2024 , at 1:00 pm ET , click here . You can also click here for a free IAC assessment , here for more information on a CHP/Onsite Energy TAP assessment , and here to learn about qualified third - party assessors . MESC is collaborating with ENERGYWERX to implement the IAC Implementation Grant program through a Partnership Intermediary Agreement with the DOE ' s Office of Technology Transitions . This partnership aims to accelerate the development and deployment of clean energy solutions .
