Hey guys , today the U . S . Department of Agriculture announced the names of some peeps who will be holding senior staff positions in Washington , D . C . Malcom A . Shorter is gonna be the Assistant Secretary for Administration . He ' s been working at USDA for over a decade , offering his expertise in government relations and operational management . He ' s had a few different roles in the past , like Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration and Acting Assistant Secretary for Administration . He ' s also got experience in the U . S . Forest Service and other government departments . Oh , and he ' s a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Army . Shorter graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Economics and has a Master ' s in Administration from Central Michigan University . Next up , we ' ve got Richard Rush , who ' s gonna be the Idaho State Director for Rural Development . He used to be Idaho ' s State Executive Director for USDA ' s Farm Service Agency in the Obama and Clinton administrations . He ' s also done some work with the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho and the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry . Rush got his Bachelor ' s in Agricultural Economics from the University of Idaho and a Master ' s in Agriculture Economics from the University of California , Davis . That ' s the scoop on these three new appointments! Last but not least , Arnold Hernandez is gonna be the Idaho State Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency . Before this gig , he was the Assistant Dean of Students and Founder/Director of the Diversity , Equity , and Inclusion Department at the College of Idaho , where he worked for a long time . In this job , he was a go - to person for college students , faculty , and staff when it came to the best practices , trends , and needs of the campus community regarding access , inclusion , diversity , and social justice . Before that , he was a manager at the Idaho Migrant Council , and he ' s also worked at Boise State University and the Private Industry Council . He started his career as a coordinator in the Migrant Program at the Wilder School District in Idaho . He graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Spanish . Leroy M . Garcia has been appointed Chief of Staff for the Rural Business Cooperative Service . He most recently worked as a special assistant at the Department of Defense . He was also a state senator in Colorado and held leadership positions in the legislature . He was re - elected to continue as Senate President for the 73rd General Assembly . He was also chosen by Joe Biden to serve on his national Latino Leadership Committee during the 2020 presidential election . Before his political career , he served in the U . S . Marine Corps and has a master ' s degree in organizational management . Shawn Campbell has been named Policy Advisor for the Farm Service Agency . Before this , he worked as a legislative analyst at USDA and also had experience in the legislative branch . He worked for Senator Michael Bennet and Senator Richard Blumenthal . He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Political Science and African American Studies . He is originally from Hartford , Connecticut .
