The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for a
Parks & Recreation Intern
in the parks & Recreation department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
** This is an 11 week internship program. **
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will assist the Director of Parks & Recreation with planning, scheduling, implementing and evaluating events and programs.
The goal of the Mont Belvieu internship is to provide a student with the opportunity to apply information and skills obtained in the classroom to real-life working situations. It also offers interns the opportunity to gain experience in planning, organizing, leading and evaluating various programs. Furthermore, it provides the intern with a constructive review and evaluation of their skills and competencies; thus, allowing realistic direction to further professional development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will assist with:
Plan, schedule, implement and evaluate events and program.
Plan, review and assist in the development of park improvement plans.
Assist with summer camps and activities to include summer park events.
Assist with the Eagle Pointe front desk to include check ins, rentals and parties.
Maintain regular contact with the public, city employees, civic groups, local businesses, and potential program sponsors.
Assist in the research and development of marketing and media events as well as update social media site.
Write press releases for local media outlet.
Develop and implement recreational programs and community events.
Plan and implement proposed new park sites, evaluate potential sites, determine opportunities and limitations, and recommend site development that will best meet the needs, interests and concerns of the community.
Work within budgetary constraints.
Coordinate with Eagle Pointe Recreation Complex and Eagle Pointe Golf on events.
Work with community groups and park user groups.
Successful completion of all assigned tasks by the intern is required.
Attend meetings associated with the department and affiliated groups including staff meeting and training.
During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Performs any and all other related duties or assignments as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current enrollment is required in an accredited college or university with a degree plan on file for Parks Administration or similar field and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
A valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record.
Ability to pass a drug test and job related doctor’s physical.
