The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for an
Aquatics Specialist
in the Parks and Recreation department. The City is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, TX in Chambers County.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position serves as the supervisor to the Aquatics department. Eagle Pointe Recreation Complex has an indoor heated lap pool and outdoor wave pool open to both members and the public. The Aquatics Specialist will be responsible for developing, organizing and implementing high quality aquatic programs. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for aquatics staff in accordance with facility policies and procedures and creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement. In addition to the programming and safety of the aquatics facilities, they will also be responsible for the overall maintenance, cleanliness, chemical balancing, and compliance and staffing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to Fitness Coordinator.
Supervise and perform all facets of pool operations and facility maintenance.
Supervision of Head Lifeguards, Part-time Lifeguards, Seasonal Lifeguards and Ticketbooth Attendants.
Planning and implementation of programs including: group swim lessons, private swim lessons, and swim team.
Identify, address and enforce lack of adherence to facility rules & policies.
Recruit and decide on the selection and training of staff.
Motivate staff to meet all job expectations and to correct deficiencies and implement discipline procedures as needed.
Assure staff and patrons compliance with City’s policies, procedures and ordinances.
Educate and provide information to the public regarding the Aquatic center operations and activities and investigate and resolve concerns.
Monitor and inspect all facets of the aquatics facility, to include pool chemicals, equipment, circulation systems, inventory, supplies, pool infrastructure and orders; adjust or repair as needed for optimum swimming comfort while maintaining health standards.
Maintain operational supplies, staff equipment, and item inventories and interface with multiple vendors as required.
Monitor staff scheduling.
Plan and conduct weekly in-service training, as required by state law, including lifeguard training.
Perform water rescues utilizing first aid, CPR/AED and lifesaving techniques as needed.
Respond and coordinate with EMS personnel before, during and after emergency situations.
Communicate effectively with staff and patrons.
Attend all required meeting and events including but not limited to; Special Events, In-Services, Community Events, etc.
Memorize and enforce EPRC Rules & Policies throughout all areas of the facility.
Diffuse conflicts and report inappropriate behavior or refusal to follow guidelines to Recreation Center Supervisor.
During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situations and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the department.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Five (5) or more years of related experience and/or training.
Life Guarding Certificate, First Aid and CPR/AED certifications required.
Life Guarding Instructor certificate, Certified Pool Operator certificate or Water Safety Instructor, preferred.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screen, job related physical and background check.

Life Guarding Instructor certificate.
Certified Pool Operator certificate.
Water Safety Instructor.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
