The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for an
Finance
Intern
in the Finance department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
** This is an 11 week internship program. **
POSITION SUMMARY:
The goal of the Mont Belvieu internship is to provide a student with the opportunity to apply information and skills obtained in the classroom to real-life working situations. It also offers interns the opportunity to gain experience in planning, organizing, leading and evaluating various programs. Furthermore, it provides the intern with a constructive review and evaluation of their skills and competencies; thus, allowing realistic direction to further professional development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will assist with:
Innovating and improve upon existing accounting and financial processes to create an efficient and effective workflow;
Evaluate workflows for opportunities to automate manual procedures.
Working with other employees to facilitate processes related to accounting, budgeting and procurement/payable activities;
Work on basic account reconciliations and confirming support for Journal Entries;
Assisting in drafting reports and findings including the preparation of tables, exhibits and charts
Help prepare journal entries on a monthly basis
Analyze expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
Identify, define and document business processes in need of improvement/implementation
During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Performs any and all other related duties or assignments as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current enrollment is required in an accredited college or university with a degree plan on file for Accounting, Finance, Business, Public Administration or similar field and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
A valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record.
Ability to pass a drug screening and job related doctor’s physical.
