☷Ionia Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Meth Conspiracy

An Ionia man from Kansas City was sentenced today in federal court for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Pettis County , Missouri . Thomas W . Pitts , 36 , received a 25 - year prison sentence without parole from U . S . District Judge Stephen R . Bough . Pitts , who has previous felony convictions for drug offenses , was considered a career criminal . During the trial , evidence showed that Pitts was part of the drug - trafficking conspiracy from February to November 2021 . On two separate occasions , a confidential informant and an undercover federal agent purchased methamphetamine from Pitts at his residence . The transactions were recorded , and law enforcement officers later executed a search warrant at Pitts ' home , where they found ammunition , a small amount of methamphetamine , and items related to drug distribution . It was also discovered that Pitts routinely carried a firearm , which was found in the possession of a third party during the search . The third party revealed that Pitts had given them the firearm shortly before his arrest . Pitts has a lengthy criminal record , with approximately 15 prior felony convictions for various offenses . The case was prosecuted by Assistant U . S . Attorneys Byron H . Black and Gregg R . Coonrod and investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies .
