Today , in a Brooklyn courthouse , Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall sentenced Ronald Delaespada to 10 years in prison for selling at least 17 illegal firearms , including assault rifles , to an undercover NYPD officer near Prospect Park South . Delaespada also pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl , heroin , cocaine , and crack cocaine with the intent to distribute . His co - defendant , Rayon Lovett , received 85 months ' imprisonment in October 2023 for firearms trafficking charges . Owen Welch , another co - defendant and Delaespada ' s brother , has also pleaded guilty to firearms trafficking charges and is waiting for his sentencing . U . S . Attorney Breon Peace , ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Bryan DiGirolamo , and NYPD Commissioner Edward A . Caban announced the sentence . Peace stated that Delaespada is a career criminal who showed no concern for how these dangerous weapons could be used . He commended the undercover officer and the ATF agents for their work in keeping these lethal weapons off the streets . DiGirolamo emphasized the importance of reducing gun violence by stopping illegal firearms trafficking , while Caban praised the sentence as a message that lawless behavior will not be tolerated in New York neighborhoods . If you need more info , you can contact John Marzulli or Danielle Blustein Hass from the U . S . Attorney ' s Office at ( 718 ) 254 - 6323 . Oh , and by the way , Delaespada already had a record for narcotics trafficking and possessing a firearm as a felon . And get this , he was actually on federal supervised release when he committed this crime . Talk about bold , huh? But when they arrested him , they found him with a ton of drugs , like pills containing fentanyl , a heroin/fentanyl mixture , and even cocaine . This guy was really stocked up!
