President Biden ' s Investing in America Agenda will provide funding to support workforce training opportunities nationwide , while also reducing costs for small businesses and energy waste . The U . S . Department of Energy ( DOE ) has announced a new funding opportunity of $24 million for workforce training programs focused on clean energy jobs that don ' t require a four - year degree . This funding , from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law , will expand the existing Industrial Assessment Centers ( IAC ) network to include more union training programs , community colleges , and trade schools . These IACs aim to help small and midsized manufacturers identify cost - saving opportunities and increase productivity , in line with the Biden - Harris Administration ' s goals of growing the clean energy workforce and boosting the economy . U . S . Secretary of Energy Jennifer M . Granholm stated that the clean energy sector offers exciting new career opportunities , with over half of the jobs created by President Biden ' s agenda not requiring a college degree . The centers will train students and workers for careers in clean energy , energy efficiency , and advanced manufacturing , while also helping small and midsized manufacturers save money , reduce energy waste , and improve productivity . The funding will support a variety of workforce training institutions , from community colleges and trade schools to union training programs and industrial apprenticeships , with a focus on delivering benefits to disadvantaged communities through President Biden ' s Justice40 Initiative . These new IACs will provide hands - on learning and technical assistance to strengthen manufacturing operations in collaboration with employer partners . So , here ' s the deal - you can choose from three different options when applying for funding: a one - year planning grant of up to $200 , 000 to get your institution ready to become an IAC , a three - year grant of $500 , 000 - $2 , 000 , 000 to turn your career training program into an IAC , or a three - year grant of $4 , 000 , 000 - $7 , 000 , 000 to establish multiple IACs with a group of partners . The folks over at ENERGYWERX will be helping out with the application process , especially for those who are new to seeking funding from the DOE . Funds can be used for things like developing curriculum , training instructors , paying student wages , and getting equipment . It ' s all about working together - so team up with other IACs , community groups , workforce boards , and industry players to make your project a success . The details and application can be found on the ENERGYWERX website , with an info session scheduled for March 5 , 2024 . If you ' re interested , you can submit a short concept paper by March 28 , 2024 , and the full application is due on May 16 , 2024 . This initiative is all about supporting IACs and building on the Department ' s successful training programs from the past . The IAC Program has been a huge success , helping thousands of small manufacturers save on energy costs . So , let ' s keep the momentum going and expand these opportunities for even more manufacturers across the country . ENERGYWERX is working together with DOE to manage this solicitation , thanks to a cool Partnership Intermediary Agreement ( PIA ) set up by DOE ' s Office of Technology Transitions ( OTT ) . This agreement allows ENERGYWERX to expand DOE ' s involvement with creative organizations and non - traditional partners , helping to quickly develop , expand , and implement clean energy solutions .
