☷Federal Jury Convicts Sheriff s Deputy for Providing Firearm to a Felon

In Denver , Johnny Alvarado , a guy from Lakewood , got busted for giving a gun to a felon . The jury in Denver found him guilty on March 4th . So here ' s what happened: a probation officer visited this dude named Kyle Garcia , who was on supervised release ' cause he ' s a felon . And guess what? The officer found a loaded gun in his closet! While the officer was there , Garcia admitted to having the gun and messing around with it , checking if it had bullets and stuff . Turns out , he got the gun from his brother - in - law , Johnny Alvarado , who ' s actually a sheriff ' s deputy . And get this , Alvarado admitted to the probation officer that he knew Garcia was a felon when he gave him the gun . Garcia got charged for being a felon with a gun and got 66 months of probation . Alvarado ' s sentencing will happen later . The trial was presided over by Judge John L . Kane . The ATF did the investigation , and the prosecution was handled by Assistant U . S . Attorney Celeste Rangel and Aurora Special Assistant U . S . Attorney Leah Perczak . This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , a program that brings together law enforcement and communities to reduce violence and make neighborhoods safer .
