☷Biden Harris Administration Holds First Ever Interagency Youth Policy Summit Cultivating Possibilities

The Biden - Harris Administration brought together about 90 young people from all over the country at the U . S . Department of Education today for the first - ever interagency Youth Policy Summit: Cultivating Possibilities . The summit , which was planned with input from young people , gave federal policymakers the opportunity to hear directly from youth and learn from each other on how to improve policies and programs that support the success of all young people . Since taking office , the Biden - Harris Administration has consistently engaged with and worked alongside young people across the country - from supporting mental health and reducing living costs , to addressing the climate crisis and relieving student debt . In the next six months , the U . S . Department of Education will virtually reconnect with these young participants and federal agencies to continue listening to and learning from them , maintaining the two - way conversation that started at the summit . U . S . Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona emphasized the importance of youth voices in education and policy discussions , stating that the Biden - Harris Administration is committed to prioritizing student outcomes and well - being by centering young people ' s perspectives . The U . S . Department of Labor ' s Employment and Training Administration is also launching the Youth Apprentice Pathway Pilot , a program that aims to provide young people with multiple pathways into federal service . Acting U . S . Secretary of Labor Julie Su highlighted the connection between job quality and personal well - being , which was reinforced by the input received from young people at the summit . This youth summit is an important opportunity for the people in charge of our country to hear directly from the young people who are affected by the policies they create . We have a diverse group of voices coming together to share their perspectives and recommendations for policy change . Valuing the perspective of young adults creates a cool relationship: young people inform decision - makers while they gain confidence that they can make a positive impact . Us young folks gotta remind the government that their policies won ' t work if they don ' t listen to us . It ' s pretty awesome that I ' m included in the planning committee for this event , and there are gonna be some amazing young advocates from the Young Invincibles’ network too . I hope all of us young people can come up with some sick new ideas to make progress . The Funders for Adolescent Science Translation are putting in $600 , 000 to help support the policy ideas and partnerships from this summit . Some of that money will go towards microgrants for us youth and the organizations involved in the summit , so we can keep working together on federal youth policy . Big thanks to The Annie E .
