The officer followed the white Honda and witnessed it running a red light . He turned on his lights and siren , but the car sped off . The officer received permission to chase the Honda , reaching speeds of up to 100 mph before it crashed into a guardrail on I - 295 Northbound near the Minnesota Ave . , NE exit . Alexander hastily got out of the driver ' s seat and started running down I - 295 as cars passed by . Another person , who was sitting in the front passenger seat , also fled from the highway and into the grass . The officer left his vehicle and chased after Alexander . While running , Alexander tried to enter a vehicle on I - 295 , not realizing that the driver was an off - duty law enforcement officer still in uniform . Alexander then continued running down the street . As the officer ran past the law enforcement agent ' s vehicle , the agent offered help and the officer jumped into the front passenger seat . The agent caught up to Alexander and blocked his path . The officer got out of the vehicle , and Alexander eventually surrendered and was arrested . According to court documents , a police officer from Prince George’s County noticed a white Honda Accord pulling into a convenience store parking lot in Suitland at 2 a . m . on August 9 , 2023 . The car quickly left , leading the officer to suspect that it had spotted his marked police cruiser . Later on , the officer saw the same Honda in the parking lot of a tobacco store . After running the license plate , the officer discovered that the car had been stolen during an armed robbery on July 24 , 2023 , in Southeast Washington . Inside the crashed white Honda , investigators found a Glock 27 , a 40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine , just lying on the driver ' s side floor . Right next to it was a cell phone . And get this , on the front passenger seat , there was another black Glock 22 , a 47 caliber handgun , just chilling in plain sight . Oh , and by the way , the Glock on the floorboard was loaded with 17 bullets , with one ready to go in the chamber . So , this judge dude will decide what happens next , considering all the fancy U . S . sentencing guidelines and stuff . This Alexander person has been stuck in custody since August 10 , 2023 . The Prince George ' s County Police Department , the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division , and the Metropolitan Police Department teamed up for this investigation as part of Project Safe Neighborhood . And last but not least , Assistant U . S . Attorney Shehzad Akhtar is prosecuting the case , with some help from paralegal Karla Nunez .
