☷New Appointee Joins Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee As Member Representing General Public

And just a quick note about the United States Mint . It was established by Congress in 1792 and became part of the Department of the Treasury in 1873 . They ' re responsible for making all the legal tender coins for the country to use in trade and commerce . The CCAC is under the authority of the Secretary of the Treasury , and the United States Mint provides all the administrative support , technical services , and advice they need . They give an annual report to Congress and the Secretary of the Treasury to let them know what they ' ve been up to and give any recommendations they have . Annelisa is also a member of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association . She ' s on the Public and School Libraries Committee , where she helps with collection development , raising literacy awareness , and creating the annual Best of the Best booklists . She ' s a true New Yorker , born and raised in Harlem , and she still lives in the city . Oh , and she ' s a big fan of classic films and loves collecting books . Now , let me tell you a bit about the CCAC . It was created by Congress in 2003 and its job is to give advice to the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs for circulating coinage , bullion coinage , Congressional Gold Medals , and other medals made by the United States Mint . They also make recommendations for commemorative coins , like who or what should be commemorated , how many should be made , and what the designs should look like . Annelisa comes from a long line of coin collectors and enthusiasts . Her grandparents and mother passed down their love of numismatics to her , and she ' s been collecting coins since she was six years old . She ' s really into the history , production , design , and composition of coins , and she thinks they ' re great educational tools for kids . In terms of her education and career , Annelisa has a Bachelor of Arts in History from New York University , a Master of Arts in American Studies from Columbia University , and a Master of Library and Information Science ( MLIS ) from St . John ' s University . She ' s actually a librarian and has worked in the youth services departments of public libraries . She ' s used the U . S . Mint for Kids resources in her outreach and activity sessions . Right now , she ' s a research and reference librarian in the private sector . Hey guys , guess what? The United States Mint just announced that Annelisa J . Purdie has been appointed to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee ( CCAC ) by the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury . She ' s one of three members chosen to represent the interests of the general public , taking over for Dr . Lawrence Brown whose term ended in January 2024 . The Mint also makes fancy coins and medals , like the special ones for Congress . They even have programs that make money without using taxpayer dollars .
